Giuseppe Ducrot / 22 Feb - 26 Apr 2018

Giuseppe Ducrot - curated by Viola Emaldi - 22 Feb - 31 March

Giuseppe Ducrot (Rome, 1966) is a versatile artist on a tireless quest for always-new technical and formal solutions. He approached sculpture after beginning his career as a painter and since then he has been constantly experimenting unexplored routes enabling his sculptural works to achieve an unencumbered pregnancy of form and content within the plasticity of the moulded medium. Giuseppe Ducrot ceramic glazed terracotta works reflect his peculiar compositional freedom arising from a unique contamination of styles, mixing references to the past reinterpreted with contemporary awareness. The artist’s manual dexterity, his adherence to the baroque, his way of proceeding along the parallel trajectories of quotation and invention and his construction and dissolution of forms are entirely evident in these works. Ducrot brings technique back to the centerstage, standing as a custodian of an ancient craftsmanship wisdom that knows no temporal bounds: a precious heritage which  encompasses antiquity and contemporaneity
